The European Computer Driving Licence curriculum was developed during the early 1990’s, by CEPIS (Council of European Professional Informatics Society). It is the only IT qualification to be backed by the EU member states as a European wide Award. In the UK the British Computer Society promotes the ECDL. In May 2004 the one millionth student registered for the qualification. In the NHS the ECDL is seen as the bench mark for basic IT skills. ECDL consists of 7 modules, which are: 1. Basic Concepts of IT 2. Using the Computer and Managing Files 3. Word Processing 4. Spreadsheets 5. Databases 6. Presentations 7. Information and Communication
